Resources

Below are some of the resources I’ve found useful as I progress through my Unity Game Development journey. As I progress more, I’ll be sure to keep this updated with what will hopefully be a useful repository of links to help you get started too.

General Resources

Unity Learn – The main starting point for learning Unity, and where I started. If you’re completely new to Game Development, then I would highly recommend starting here. Check out the Unity Essentials Pathway first, which gives you a primer on how to use Unity, then you could progress to one of the other Pathways, which cover Creative Core, Junior Programmer, VR Development, and Mobile AR Development.

Unity Asset Store – My first recommended stop when you’re first starting out! The Unity Asset Store offers thousands of assets at reasonable prices. Every asset has been moderated by Unity, so you know they are going to work on supported versions of the editor. Best of all, though, they also have a reasonably sized selection of free assets, which are perfect if you’re just starting out and don’t want to start spending the cash yet.

Humble Bundle – Humble Bundle is one of my favourite sites for resources and a real guilty pleasure of mine. They often have deals on Unity Training Courses, and also offer some great deals on Unity asset bundles. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that you’re helping out a charity when you buy from here, too!

Snakes and Ladders Assets

The following assets were used in creating my Snakes and Ladders game. I’d like to thank all the creators for their content and hope they like how they’ve been used within my game.

Sci-Fi Interior Modular Kit [Demo] | 3D Sci-Fi | Unity Asset Store – G.Forge – This is a great low poly asset from G.Forge, which allowed me to make the 3D space station as my board for the game.

Deep Space Skybox Pack | 2D Textures & Materials | Unity Asset Store – Sean Duffy – A beautiful little skybox that adds that out-of-this-world feel to my game. Really pretty colouring, and there are three different skyboxes to choose from.

Character Pack – Lowpoly FREE | 3D Humanoids | Unity Asset Store – EMD Assets – This low-poly character pack comes with three humanoid characters and three robots, all with different materials, giving you lots of players to work with. I’ve used this as my player for testing purposes so far, but I may stick with it for the overall game as I like the look.
